The video contains dramatic reenactments of real interviews of former slaves, conducted during 1936 to 1938 as part of the Federal Writers' Project of the Works Progress Administration (WPA). These are their exact words, and the actors are speaking in the vernacular of the period. In this clip, they recall memories of being enslaved as children.
